I see this as a place to share code, links, and long-lived information. But you can use it any way you like, because YOU are the ones that write it. What awesome power!
Special mention goes to Lutz Mueller for writing the Wiki software, and for making it so easy that even I can set it up in under a day.
The pages are protected with the password "psilwen", which should be easy to remember--it's newLISP spelled backwards.
It's here for you to use. I hope you will like it.

Uh oh! We seem to have stripped a gear. The page now shows:
I understand your comment, cormullion. I'm jealous of my browser's real estate myself. I'll cut down the header size, just as soon as this other thing is under control. BTW, this was the best dragonfly I could come up with on short notice. It's actually, would you believe, a photo of a lawn ornament, hehe! Does anybody have something better we could use?
newdep, there's no spam control other than having the edit password buried in a posting on this forum. I don't think the spammers are going to read that deeply. They're all about quantity, not quality. (Hmmm, I wonder if they'll think of searching on password?..)
I think I know where the problem is, and I'm on it.<!-- list or string expected in function replace : content called from user defined function

Lutz, you got a minute? The /wiki/pages directory has no entries after 5/27, and is missing several files and postings, while the /wiki/backup seems to be complete. Can I simply cp ./backup ./pages to restore, or is there a better way?
Looking at the source HTML of the partially-served page, it appears that the process is halting when it can't find the Default_Style file, missing from the /wiki/pages directory.

you could either use the 'restore' function or you could just copy over the pages from backup/, but if you just coy over the pages you have to strip of the date attached to the filename.
If you use the restore function it will offer you the date to be restored (there could be several versions).

Thanks, Lutz! For some reason Default_Style was deleted from /pages. index.cgi couldn't serve the stylesheet, so it quit. Therefore I couldn't use /index.cgi?restore.
I've got it enough of it back to work with now, but I'm going to take a break and calm my nerves first. The Wiki will be down for a couple of hours.
Be back later!

The Wiki is up and running again!
Somehow, several files in the /pages directory got deleted, which brought the web page down. I have no idea how this happened, but I did learn a lot bringing the Wiki back up. I should be quicker next time ;-)
I think that I recovered all the posts, but if not, please post them again. Nothing has been purposely deleted.
cormullion, I downsized the dragonfly, but I can't find where those two <br>'s are in the header code, yet. I'll keep looking!

I found a nice bug :-)
Just found a nice bug there:
If I point to the end of the link (w/o a click) and leave the cursor there, then the link will be redrawn without a bold attribute - so it will became more short, and now the cursor will not point to a link.
So now the link will be redrawn with a bold attribute and all coming again.
;-)

I think the css for the links, visited, and hover need to be extended to include titles, big titles, bigger titles, etc.
Lutz has given us a great model to start from, but I deviated from it, and this is what happens. I can fix it for this Wiki, but a more general solution seems to be in order.
How can the css code be factored to allow for an easy change of fonts? (I made this task even more difficult by locking the nLFCWiki's Default Style so that only I can mess around with it.)

I've just been through the wiki and cleaned it out of spam and stuff. But I don't think it's in perfect shape, so you might want to restore it from backup - or just close it down, since it's not active...
The thing it was really good for (playing around with a live version of the wiki) is the one thing that makes it vulnerable to misuse... :(
I've shut down comments on my site too. Sad but inevitable, really...

I set up the nLFC Wiki so that our Members could share code and information that might tend to be lost in a discussion thread. We had an initial flurry of activity, then a trickle, then just about nothing. Even the spammers seemed to lose interest.
I have a support role here, and I'll do my best to accommodate the needs of the Members -- you'll always have a forum as long as you wish, but any real leadership will have to come from among the Members. What would you folks like to have? Is a BBS enough, or would you like the full suite of content management community software? Would someone else like to assume control? I like the idea of a newLISP SIG, but am not especially talented, nor motivated. And I've never been much of a leader. I'm just a simple tall-ship sailor [http://alh.net/me/me.html] who likes to come down from aloft occasionally and learn new things and enjoy stimulating discussions. We've certainly had those over the past years, and I'd like to see them continue. Maybe we could start a new thread and discuss it!

Thanks Ryon - your continuing efforts are much appreciated by me. As for the wiki, I've got my hands full with my own app and site and other newLISP activity on this BBS and elsewhere so I don't get round to playing with the wiki much.
It's partly that I don't like to see good things go to waste - I don't see too much point in the wiki now, and would rather it wasn't there at all than there looking unloved and forlorn.
(And you missed talk like a pirate day this year, ooh ar! :-)

I used the wiki to host the jEdit newLISP syntax generator because I don't have any particular place to publish such a script. I still use jEdit for any serious newLISP writing so I have a vested interest in ensuring it's updated, but a wiki lets others easily fix errors and upgrade it to new versions should I disappear.
Of course any wiki would serve that purpose, and (honestly) it's unlikely anyone else would actually update the script. Maybe it could find another home.
Note the script still worked fine the last I checked (around newLISP 9.3 and jEdit 4.3pre15).

I can host it here:
http://www.newlisp.org/index.cgi?Code_Contributions
its currently linked to the wiki, but I could copy it over,
if it works on the latest development version of newLISP and works on jEdit. I have used jEdit earlier and really liked it.

Thanks Lutz. I'll clean it up and test it with the latest and send it to you when I have time.Lutz wrote:I can host it here:

Careful Lutz, such comments might be referenced in fanatical promotion for jEdit by people who's lives have been drastically improved as a result of using it. ;)Lutz wrote:I have used jEdit earlier and really liked it.

The syntax generation file doesn't work with 9.9/10. I'm seeing the error:
(I added a println command to see what the problem was...) I don't really understand what dump is doing (well, apart from printing out magic numbers) - but why $idx - that isn't new...? I can't see anything obviously out of date with the rest of the code.
Code: Select all
!= 7
$ 7
$0 0
$1 0
$10 0
$11 0
$12 0
$13 0
$14 0
$15 0
$2 0
$3 0
$4 0
$5 0
$6 0
$7 0
$8 0
$9 0
$args 11
$idx 2
ERR: user error : Unhandled symbol type 2 for $idx
called from user defined function JEDIT-MODE-GEN:symbols-mapped-to-xml
called from user defined function JEDIT-MODE-GEN:print-sym-xml
Just offhand I think it's due to the new functionality of $idx working in (map) function. When I initially wrote it, I avoided using (dolist) for specifically this reason. In any case, Lutz already uploaded a slightly updated version of the script on newlisp.org. I'm also going to take a closer look at the script just to make sure everything is working properly.
Yes, that is the reason. I guess you have seen my private message earlier this morning. I have it working adding this:Just offhand I think it's due to the new functionality of $idx working in (map) function.
Code: Select all
(2 ;; number (symbols that are number)
(append "<KEYWORD3>" (encode-xml (string x)) "</KEYWORD3>")
)
